Why do Reddit videos normally download without sound?
Reddit's player streams video and audio as two separate files (DASH streams) and combines them in your browser. Saving the video URL directly gets you only the video half. We fetch both streams and merge them into one MP4 before handing you the download.
Should I paste the post link or the v.redd.it link?
The post link (reddit.com/r/…/comments/…) is the reliable choice — it lets us find every stream that belongs to the video. Bare v.redd.it links sometimes work but can miss the audio.
Do GIFs and images from Reddit work?
Reddit-hosted videos are the primary use. GIFs hosted on Reddit itself usually come through as video files. Content embedded from third-party hosts (Imgur, Gfycat archives, etc.) should be downloaded from those sites directly.
Can I download from private or quarantined subreddits?
No. The post must be publicly viewable without a login. Private communities and quarantined subreddits that require an opt-in can't be accessed.
